Of course MB provide you with the correct lugs, and the correct spare, and the appropriate alloy wheels to suit your ML. The problems arise when you're not happy with the job the engineers, designers and stylists at MB did on your ML, so you get wider rims, fatter tyres, shorter springs, etc. It's perfectly OK to do all that if it helps you to enjoy driving your ML. Just hang onto a set of factory lug bolts (wrap them up and stick them to your jack) when you fit your wide rims with their longer lugs, otherwise bad things can happen like Oatie44's experience.

For me, I love my OEM wheels and the understated elegance of my ML. I don't think you can never have too much chrome or woodgrain. Sometimes less is more.
