2 problems with 2002 ml500

hey guys, have a 2002 ML500 in excellent condition with 70k. i have noticed 2 things lately. 1. it looks like its slightly leaking from bottom of radiator (passenger side) by where the hose/ clamps goes into radiator. is thier any issues known on that hose/clamp?

2. when i am at a complete stop and take off with force, i feel a shift underneath the car somehwere from the middle to rear of car. its only if i step on it. it does not happen if I take off slowly. it also does not happen if I am already moving and then suddenly hit gas. ANy ideas?

Thanx alot guys, forum is great!

Of course check the hose and the hose clamps. Thats the first thing to look at. As for the "shift", sounds like someting is sliding around, check under the seats and in the side storage areas in the cargo area and in the door pockets. Also be certain your spare tire is in the rack correctly.

When my driver's side motor mount was bad on my 2002 ML500, I felt motion at the gear selector when accelerating from a stop. It felt like the whole engine/transmission assembly was shifting front to back. Since the driver's side motor mount was changed, I can report that there are no more issues with the gear shifter and the engine feeling like it's shifting around. The rubber on the old motor mount was completely ripped - only the safety bolt was preventing the mount from pulling apart. Hope this helps!

The transfer case is in that location, although if there was something going wrong with it, I think you'd probably see a red light blink on the dash.

The hoses under the clamps "memorize" the shape over the years and might not offer enough pressure to hold the seal. It is good idea to go thru all clamps every couple of years. Our 99 model had small leak on transmission fluid cooling hoses.
To my knowledge those cars have lot of controlling sensor on the engine, but none on transfer case, or differentials.
Never hurts to raise the car and take a good look under.
