power steering pump

2001 ML with 50,000 miles.....oil drops on driveway, power steering made noise.....Independant MB shop diagnosed bad p.s.pump. Pump, resevoir, hoses replaced.....$750. Didn't go to the dealer, too many bad results in the past. I did not get an extended warranty. Any one else had this pump fail or did I get stiffed again? comments...

Yep - been there done that...

The pump on my '00 ML430 failed at about 76,000 miles - noticed a few drops of oil on the drive way and checked the PAS oil level to confirm.

Thought it might be the O ring between pump and resevoir costing a couple of bucks - but no joy, needed a new pump so took it down my local indy mechanic and had them change it.

Lkewise too many bad experiences with the local MB dealer - so for anything major I go to an indy who lives and dies by his reputation.

BTW - price you paid seems about right.

Hello I had the same problem!! I went to MB dealer they said me about hose Inf was bad. They changed for a new hose (RECALL) double check in it. all 2001 ml need to change it. That hose come from radiator to the pump. Check your car if need It, the dealer could change it free.

recall for Ml 2001 some (vin):

1. Hose inf
2. Catalizer
