I cannot seem to find any information on this simple question.
How often do I need to change the oil/filter on my 2004 ML350?
Is it every 5000Km like every other car OR does the truck tell you when to change the oil? I do not have a service booklet or anything and have just purchased this truck second hand.
My local shop uses the MANN paper filter with synthetic 5w30.
Would this suffice?

Wrong oil. Should be XXW-40 or higher.
If using Mobil 1 0W-40 or 15W-50 I would change it every 10K miles. More often than that is throwing money away. Make sure they use the newer style fleece filter (Mann, Hengst or Bosch are OK).
Your car will tell you when it's time to change the oil. If you press your odometer button the display will change to various displays. One of them has a wrench on the left which is the countdown to when you need to change the oil. It's based on your driving style.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
You really should use Mobil 1 synthetic 0W40 or 5W40
Make sure you are getting the Fleece oil filter (wraped with a wax plastic), and not the plain paper MANN.
I have seen the plain paper MANN filter eaten up by the synthetic oil (going past the service time of 10,000 miles).
Change the oil when the display tells you to. Service A or Service B.
The 112/113 engine can go up to (at least) 11,500 before changing the oil, but I recommend service at every 10,000.
MY 50K
Happy Benzing!!!

0% financing on all upgrades.
It used to be every 11,000km but Mercedes have just increased this to 15,000km if your oil change is done at a `Merc ' centre, they will adjust your computer so that the alert comes up in accordance with the new requirement
MB recommended to change your oil 1 a year or 10k miles. with mobil 1 fully synth. 0-40. i dont drive that much so i change my oil at least twice a year with mobil 1 0-40 and MB filter.

There are 5W-30 oils that are approved by M/B, one just has to make sure of the brand name. Too many people are hung up on Mobil 1. There are many oils just as good.
