have a minor issue with my ML. BAS/ESP light keeps coming after two minutes of driving.
No major changes in engine, performance or handling.
would like to know how to trouble shoot with taking to dealer and paying $$$

Mine did that every once and a while. I stop and turn the wheel completely from one direction to the other. I have also disconnected the battery and it resets the whole system. Did this a week ago and no problems since.

changed the brake swtitch today and still the light came back on

I feel your pain as I have had a BAS/ESP light issue for the past three months. How is the condition of the battery? A low system voltage will cause the lights to come on. Assuming the battery and charging system are in good order the next aarea I would check would be the connector on the ABS pump. One of the two control modules is (at least on my 2002 model) attached to the ABS pump and the connector can experience oxidation. The module is located right around/under the washer fluid tank.

well i decided to take it to the dealer this morning to see whats going on!.
I will post how it went and the damaging cost.

If its intermittent and the ESP dosen't function when the lights are lit then I would guess it's the infamous a failed switch in the steering column.

Mine was related to a speed sensor in one of the wheels.

My low-tech intuitive way to cope with this is to wash my brakes thoroughly. My wife's ML320 had this problem occasionally and everytime she turned the wheel left and right but the light came back on soon after. I did not believe that the voltage was low since I have just replaced my battery with a Mercedes original. Only thing I could think of was the sensors. Since the brake pads are very dusty they may have caused the sensors to temporarily mulfunction. Nowadays the lights still come on once in a big while but I consider it fixed...
