I called the dealership about a new key for my slk. I will assume prices are similar/the same for the M-class. The told me $146 for the key. Plus they may need to charge a half hour labor to program the key. Have not had it done yet.

What is an AMG ML55 with AMG kit and AMG Rims? That's kind of like saying a M3 with M3 body kit and M3 wheels.

I think $150 to $200 sounds like the range for keys. Beware there is a limit to the number of keys that can be issued before they have to change computer parts. You should check on how many are out for your car already.

the later models seperated the locking system computer from the main computer so they only need to replace that instead of the entire computer. It's cheaper than our case. He's looking at a ML500

Sounds like you guys paid alot, I only paid $108 after tax just for the key plus $36-48 for programming. I live in Long Island, NY, around here should be a more pricey than other states. The parts salesman can determind how much more or less you pay, so be friendly and curtious. =)

Ash Leather Shift gate list price: $158 plus tax
Paid price by parts salesman: 99.94 after tax

doesn't that add up to $144 to $156 or the $150 to $200 I've seen others mention they paid.

Actually, because we have so many dealers packed together in the tri-state area, sometimes our price is lower than say "the only dealer for 1000 miles" in another area might charge. Certainly I also get the "I'm friendly with the parts guy" discount and that advice is very true. They can give you the retail price or the wholesale repair shop price.
