Can anyone please adivse how I fix a sticky accelerator pedal on a 2002 ML500? Gets really sticky around 60-65mph on a flat road. In general, there feels like there's too much resistance. Thanks!
Does it "slide" smoothly when you step on or let off? If not, you may have a similar problem I had. It took me 3 or 4 trips to different dealerships getting the mechanism and springs replaced. In the end, all it really needed was cleaning.

Yes, it does slide smoothly initially--maybe just a little resistance at first. but then, when i need to really accelerate, or go from 60 to 70 mph on a straight-away, I encounter a resistance and have to push sort of hard on the pedal to get to the desired speed. if that sounds familiar, maybe you're right that it really just needs a cleaning. I appreciate your help.
MB refers to this problem as a notchy accelerator. I had it from new on my ML500 when I took delivery in Aug of 01 (Traded on an 06). My dealer did several things to correct it that did work pemanently. Changed the cable from the pedal to the box on the firewall. That worked a bit but not totally. He then replaced the box on the firewall and that cured it totally and permanently. Some guys have removed springs and /or streched them out. I would not suggest that could lead to other problems. Lubing the cable is a temp band aid and will not work for long. Its very annoying and not an uncommon problem.

The two previous posts are correct.... but for the record... you do understand that your ML is "drive by wire" on your throttle. On the firewall... on the drivers side of your engine compartment you can see the spring and end of your throttle cable attached to a control box.... Just wanted to make sure you knew...

On our '00, the dealer replaced the cable 3 times and checked the box. Each cable replacement would help for a couple months; then problem would return. I think the cable impresses it's pattern into the housing causing the problem. I stretched the return spring on the box a little. Problem has been gone for 2 yrs.
