thinking about installing one and since i have'nt done it before, i figure i should ask first. can i install it myself or do i need a profesional to do it? is it bolted on or wellded, is it a permanent bond or can it be removed? anything i should be carefull about buying - when it comes to quality, finnish or weight of the bar? thanks
As mentioned, it's a DIY. As far as removing it after installation, if OEM it depends on which one you install. If type 1 steel bar, the cutting required for installation is limited to the bumper grill (to cut a slot for the back brace) which is cheap to replace. If you get the type 2 steel bar, you have to drill 2 large holes in the bumper cover itself which is obviously a little trickier to close up if the bar is removed.
The composite bar (like dewdaltz's) probably also involves drilling through the bumper cover to install.

aight for the first response you made, i actually got them all down by the RBM manufacturer. all those kits that you see on the truck was all part of the deal for my ml320. but if you go to RBM Atlanta the one in sandy springs, they will help you out for a pretty cheap price. and yeah im probably gunna buy their wheels, but i also have 4 sets of s5000 wheels. they are very big, about 20" rims with turanza racing tires on em. they were part of my dads s5000 until he wrecked it lol. but if you do want to buy my wheels ill post some pictures of it. they are pirelli offroading wheels with amg rims. ill tell you more about them in a different post. P.S. if you dont know where to get your fog lights hooked up, try nopis or a place called car audio shop. they hooked up my neon lights under the car even though they are audio shop. and plus they did a great job on wiring and hided the switch in the dash! and the fog lights switch is actually next to my head unit (stock). good luck!
