Noise and a lag during acceleration... What is it?

Well, a year ago while i was accellerating suddenly i was hearing a small noise ,i had a lag in accelleration and finally was speeding up...
When i was accellerating smoothly i didnt have the above symptoms.
Before some months i noticed that and with smooth accelleration i hear the noise and i have also a lag (smaller than when i accellerate suddenly)....

Already my ML has on its back 96.000 km...

I asked my dealer and he couldn;t say anything!!!!
I asked BRABUS and they told me that this is common to ML 'S which have done a lot of kilometers due to the physical (after kilometers) interlace lag between front and rear wheel drive....

Some others said to me that could be the ESP which in sudden accelleration works especially in conjuction of used tires... But in my question when i speed up smoothly or when i have off the ESP why i have the same behavior again they couldn;t answer me....

So does anyone has noticed the same to his car ?
And finally what is the problem causing this?

BTW I dont want to think that my tranny is going to be off !!!!!

Well I don't believe the line from Brabus.
There are tens of thousands of ML 430 in excess of 100,000km and they are smooth.

I am sure your problem is real, but not diagnosed yet. Has a dealer used any diagnostic computers on the truck?

RE: Noise and a lag during acceleration... What is it?

On my former 2001 ML 320, I had some wheel sensor problems that produced the same lagging effect, during startup acceleration, and there was the humming sound from the brakes being applied lightly to control what the computer thought was a lightly out of control situation. Once the speed was constant or the accelaration was very smooth, then the problem dissappeared.

The dealer could not find the bad wheel sensor, right away, and it took several visits and frustrating months until they finally found the problem sensor.

After all these years of owning my current 2005 ML 500, it is a major unreliable vehicle with a very large/expensive repair/defect history and has been like this since brand new.

what kind of brabus work do you have? and when you accelerate does the yellow triangle flash? I had a really old pair of tires on my old ML that it got to the point on WOT in 1snt and sometimes into 2nd gear the triangle would flash the whole time, but my tires were basically bald.

RE: Noise and a lag during acceleration... What is it?

Noodles : Yes the dealer used the Mercedes diagnostic tool

AC_ML : Maybe you are right and is a wheel sensor.I will insist to my dealer to check it.

Andrew2004a2 : The Brabus modification is an enlargement of the engine to 5.8 litres and the Brake system of Brabus.
I replaced the Mercedes air filter with this of K&N.
Also finally i removed the precatalysts in the excaust system.

Anyone else with the same experience and with any idea for solving my problem?

RE: Noise and a lag during acceleration... What is it?

Yes why not... a supercharger..
but anyway till now i am satisfied with this stage of modification...

I beat all the Turbo cayennes here in Greece

The only modification i am thinking to do is an improvement to the excaust system (which is Brabus)
Recently i discovered that BRABUS with their excaust system they leave the original factory outs of excaust from the engine (the part of excaust from engine till the precatalysts).
I have now in my hands a new design of this part of excaust that will give me extra 30 horsepower...
That means that it will be more crazy to beat the Turbo cayennes more easily....

But finally can anyone else knows about this noise and the lag that i have during acceleration?
