RE: Block Heater

As I recall from the ownership of a 98 there is no block heater at least on the US cars. Do not know about Canadian vehicles or the availability of it as an option.

RE: Block Heater

Mine has one, I think it is standard equipt in canada. I will check the location for you. I only plug it in when it gets below -25. I have never had a problem starting the ML even below -30 when I forgot to plug in last winter.

RE: Block Heater

Sorry this took so long. I've had serious stomach flu and could not get out of bed :=(. Anyway the blockheater plug is usually tucked up under the front bumper. Look for the cord in the following pictures to locate where the end has been hidden

RE: Block Heater

Do you know if the block heater is "just for warming the block" or if it is also charging your battery ? In addition, does anyone know if you can install a block heater after market ?

Steve, it's just for warming the engine block itself.

RE: Block Heater

I believe that Canadian Spec vehicles do get the block heater, however the plug itself is not included. You may have to get that from your MB dealer. Expect that to be around $70-$100, from what I recall.
