Is $650 for rear brakes and rotors reasonable?

My local shop gave me that quote. I haven't got a quote from the dealer but I assume it is higher. What is your experience for pricing for rear brakes and rotors?

depends on what kind of breaks and rotors you are getting. if you know that would be help us gauge the cost.

I was quoted around $500 for both front and rear pads and rotors for OEM stuff. I also asked the dealer for the price brake pads and rotors and they said somewhere around $650 + tax, not incl labor. Hope that helps.

I got all 4 changed (pads and rotors) for that money.. 450 parts + ~200 labor... so, 650 for rears only -- too much.

My MB dealer quoted $1000+ for pads and rotors all around [:(]
I went to local shop requested for OEM Pagid Pads, Zimmerman/ATE rotors and flush the brake fluid; I paid $650 for everything [:)]
Next time I will DIY [^]
Good luck

RE: Is $650 for rear brakes and rotors reasonable?

To change the brakes on all four wheels on my ML takes less than one hour per axle, and that’s using a floor jack. Of course I have a lot of “shade tree experience, but I can’t imagine a trained mechanic with all the right tools, experience and a vehicle lift taking any longer. My guess is even at inflated prices, $100 per axel should cover the labor. The most high-priced performance pads and rotors are around $500 per axle, but OEM pads and rotors are less than $300 per axle. This means that a brake job on the ML should run between $400 (OEM parts) and $600 (performance parts) per axle. Anything more than that and you’re getting soaked.

Definately too much. Last time I did that when I was living in the US cost me $500.

The last rear brake job I saw in the shop for a ML430 was $540 using all MB OEM parts at the MB dealer so $650 does sound high.
