Installation instructions for ML320 Fuel Pump

I've got a feeling the fuel pump has gone bad in this '99 and I do not have a service manual. Does anyone have any expierence with this repair. Here is at least one link that I found so far that provides some information.

RE: Installation instructions for ML320 Fuel Pump

Wolfgang's site is the only one I know of with the pump instructions. When I upgraded the fuel filter I sent him my photos and step by step. If doing the pump do the filter at the same time (if you haven't already done it). Check out the link for the filter to get the instructions on pulling the seat and getting to the top of the pump.

Thanks,
Is the access for both pump and filter under the rear seat? Or is the Pump access above, and the filter some other location?

You can get to the filter from below. However, on the early models that need the filter upgrade, you need to access the fuel pump to replace the fuel lines. This requires you to open the top access cover.

Hey guys,
New guy here. I am having problems with ML320. Changed plug wires and now won't start. Changed back to old wires, no go. Getting fuel to injectors. But not getting to combustion chamber. It will start for a few seconds if I spray fuel into the throttle body. I am thinking maybe the fuel injectors are bad or the fuel pump is not pumping the correct pressure. Does anyone had the same problem. I am testing the fuel pressure when I buy a pressure gauge. Until then, please make reply if someone has any answers. Really need to get ML out of the garage.

Practically every new member does not fully complete the registration form by including the year and model of their vehicle. Please click on USER CP to the left, then click on EDIT PROFILE, scroll down to ADDITIONAL INFORMATION and insert the year and model of your truck.

What has probably happened here is that Fuse #11 has blown. Fuse 11 controls the power going to the fuel injectors and the MAF sensor.. Also check Fuse #26 which controls the coils.

Hopefully, after you replaced the wires, you reattached the air inlet tube and the MAF sensor plug. Without that the vehicle will not start.

Thank you guys for replying. My 2000 ML320 has been my project now for over a week. Everything is hooked up. All fuses and relays are good. Checked all wiring to and from fuel pump. MAF is good. CPS new. Still think the fuel pressure or injectors. I am buying a pressure gauge today and I will see if the pressure is good. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Hey gravel,
From what i have read, there should be 53-61 lbs. of pressure from the fuel pump. After shutting off the engine the pressure should hold at approx 36 lbs. that is what i am going to find out today. I will keep you posted.

Update on the fuel pressure readings, turned key to position 2 - 46 psi, cranked engine -- 55 psi, sprayed fuel into throttle body and put all back on, cranked engine, on for a few seconds long enough to give pressure - 58 psi. Fuel pump works. Also, when I unplugged the throttle body sensor, it started up but ran poorly, plug back in, no start. Does anyone know what kind of problems I have? Not sure if injectors work properly. Is there something electrical that is making the injectors not work?
