Rear Main Seal Leaking Again!!

The Mercedes dealer replaced the rear main seal two months ago on my 2000 ML320. A $900 job. I just noticed today the seal area is leaking worse than before. This is crazy. It is tricky to replace these? Is it possible to not install these properly? Should the dealer replace for free?

Thanks in advance

The MB dealer repair warranty for should be 12mos/12,000 miles so they should be on the hook for this repair.

What is a rear main seal?
Its the oil seal in the rear of the engine that prevents oil from leaking around the rear end of the crankshaft where it is attached to the transmission.

RE: Rear Main Seal Leaking Again!!

My guess is that there is a problem causing the seal to fail, like a bad bearing that’s letting the crankshaft wobble, or maybe there is a rough spot on the crankshaft this is ruining the seal. Wither way, the dealer should stand behind the job, even if it’s no more than to install a new seal so you can sell the truck without any oil leaks! [:D]
