Recently got some OEM Black Tubular side steps from my local Mercedes dealer costing $1500. They told me they would fit my Ml320 Year 2000.
When the day came the Mercedes mechanics’ couldn’t fit them after spending 3 hours on the ML said the bars need modification like cutting and they were not prepared to do that. And that the bars were for a later Model.
I don’t think they know what there on about. Can some one please enlighten me if they can or cannot be fitted and if so HOW…?
Vaio, If all the parts are included to the box, thats should fit because that is the older type not the newer type like your dealer said. and even yourself you can do it. is the instruction included to the package?, if it don't PM me.

Doubt you will get nice condition OEM sidesteps for $130. Only the made-in-china-or-garage-bend-break-hammer-grind-force variety cost that little. And used bars that are pristine are rare...

I bought my stainless steel bars on eBay for about $180. The finish on them is very good. The only problem is that the brackets have developed a few spots of rust, but that’s an issue on the $1,500 OEM’s, too. Besides, for $180, if they have to be replaced every two years, it would take me over 15 years to get to the price of the OEM’s.
redeye - look on EBay and after show your eagle.
dont show how you dont know many things,ok

Da. I'll watch out for the KGB on my doorstep.
I myself have had some experience with buying cheap side steps on Ebay. Paid $200 and they were rubbish; huge effort to install and I took them to the dump after 1 week as the step came loose.
1) You won't find good quality sidesteps for $130; Rodney's $180 is almost 50% more. And used steps will almost always have scratches, nicks or dents.
2) Vaio is in Australia - gauranteed he won't have access to a large selection of sidesteps on Ebay that can be shipped to him for less than $300 shipping cost.
Thanks for the reply guys I don’t know if they are style 1 or 2 the local Mercedes dealer don’t know either they are 100% useless. The instruction and all the brackets and bolts were in the box.
The Mercedes guys recommended me to some fitter who do jobs for them as they had no clue on how to put them on. They only said theses step are for a later model 3 hours later.
When this other fitter came round he stated that the back step bracket to the back of the car is no problem that can be fitted but the bracket that holds the bar to the front of the car cannot because its longer. He stated that the chassis is in the way and that it would need to be cut then the bracket put in place and welded. He recommended taking the bars back to Mercedes because it’s a major alteration.
Redeye gave me a link to some fitting instruction from Frank Kuenhl with some of his recommendations written on do I need to get some one to follow them.
Please advice and thanks for your support……Joel.

Redeye is correct here in Australian we have a very small selection of side steps. The best selections are in the US and some of them won’t ship to Australia and the ones who do will charge well over $600 for shipping.
The ones on EBay are poor quality you get what you pay for you pay cheap money then you will end up with cheap stuff that wont last.
