chrome deck lid handle

Hey anyone know if it's worth buying the chrome deck lid handle from PP or from ? I called PP and they said it's just a stick on. I was also wondering if the OEM handles were the same(stick-ons)? $60 bucks is a lot for a stick-on...dang!!

RE: chrome deck lid handle

I have one and it really dresses up the back of the truck. You could buy the OEM part, but replacing it is going to be a several-hour job involving removal of the interior trim panel on the liftgate, which is pretty involved and will result in broken trim clips. I’m not sure about the retail price of the OEM part, but at the time, my “dealership employee discounted price for it was about $70. Given the difference in price, install time, and the fact that once it’s installed you can’t tell the difference, I chose the stick-on version.

I agree I also heard it is a nightmare to install the oem part. I have had the stick-on from PP and its been almost 2 years and its good as new.

RE: chrome deck lid handle

If you look carefully you can see it's stuck on, and if you touch you can feel it's stuck on. But it's so close to the OEM look, the easy installation makes it worth it.

RE: chrome deck lid handle

I replaced mine a year or two ago, along with the OEM chrome front grill. It really does dress up the ML amazingly for such a relatively small cost, and. IMHO, goes very well with the Azure Blue of our car.

It really is not a big deal to install - definitely not a couple of hours. I am very anal and very methodical and very thorough when I work on the interior of the car, and it took me less than an hour, IIRC. I bought clips from the dealer before starting, and ended up having to replace only one or two. There is a good publication on benzworld, again IIRC, that helped me out a lot.

I would say definitely go for the OEM - I won't use a stick-on on my Mercedes [:)]. YMMV
