Replacing ashtray light

I took the center console apart and pulled the ash tray out, but couldn't figure out how to replace the little light bulb. I tried every way to disassemble the sliding ashtray still with no success. Please help me out on this. Thanks

RE: Replacing ashtray light

Take the console apart - just like you're trying to get at the window switches (lifting up the paneling around the shifter on the console). The power/ground cords running to the lighter unplug from the bottom of the lighter unit. The bulb is on that connection with the cords after you disconnect it. Fairly easy to access - I've never replaced the bulb though.

RE: Replacing ashtray light

Are you sure the bulb just didn't slip out of the mounting and is floating around inside the console somewhere. Those are pretty long lasting bulbs.

RE: Replacing ashtray light

@chawk01: Onesixthree has a MY2002, so the ashtray sits in front of the shifter, unlike our per-2002 models where the ashtray sites behind the shifter. His light replacement will be different.

RE: Replacing ashtray light

If it’s like many of the bulbs used by MBZ, it’s just a blade-type base that’s pushed into the socket. Can you get to it with tweezers or maybe a small piece of rubber tubing to bull it out?

RE: Replacing ashtray light

Sorry about that. I thought about the model year differences after posting my reply. My first attempt at being helpful instead of asking the questions - oh well [;)]

Can someone help me out with this ... my light burnt out today.

If someone has instructions on what to do and what bulb I need to get, that would be most appreciated.

Thanks.
