Lowering an ML

I recently purchased INTRAX springs to lower my 2001 ML55.

Has anybody ever lowered their ML?

How much did the installation of the springs cost? and the adjustment of the front?

Thanks for any help

it's about 4 hours worth of work for the rears and about 1/2 hour for the fronts. unless you're changing the struts in the front, all you need to do is turn a nut which lowers the fronts.

just make sure your mechanic takes note of how many turns he does for each side. otherwise, you'll have one strut "workin" harder than the other...

RE: Lowering an ML

I had my 430 lowered with Eibach Springs... I had Intrax and H&R demo'd on my truck as well and the Eibach were superior to both in terms of ride quality. The Eibach's also were not a huge drop like the Intrax were as well.

I read some of the posts on this board and apparently 4 hours of work is just plain BullShi*.
It usually takes an hour for the rear swap.

Don't you have to worry about camber when you lower these trucks?

It seems like you'll have permanent -ve camber when lowered. What am I missing?

The ML55 seems somewhat lower than the ML500 and presents a much better stance. I know you already have your springs, but wouldn't the 55 swap be the easiest option. Are the springs from the 55 to th 500 just plain plug & play, without worrying about the larger sway bars of the 55?

Also, would upgrading the rim to a larger size make the truck look like it's lowered? Anyway, I want the lower look also.

Hey vsNYC... Have you gad yours done? Do you know that it only takes 1hour? I had mine done and watched for the most part. It's pretty involved since they have to drop the rear and use spring compression tools to get the old springs out.

I'm just posting this to answer your question. If you're going to take offense to peoples post, then I say dont ask.

I guess you are right. I wasn't taking offense I was just stating that somebody posted on the board that it takes an hour for the swap.

The reason I was surprised at the 4 hours quoted by a local shop is that, the springs cost $175 and the swap is $250.

Sounded strange to me.

From what I hear, you'll regret it.

I bought my Eibachs over a year ago and have never put them on. Everyone who's done it says the ride is horrible with the 20" wheel combination. Search some of the past posts and take what "Chris K" says as the gospel. He did a lot of mods before letting his ML go.
