BAS/ESP AGAIN and AGAIN!!!!!!!

Hello All,

Once again my 2000 ML 430 BAS/ESP light is coming on intermittently.

When it first came on 1 year ago I changed the Brake Switch,,, that worked,,,

I have changed it again, that doesn't work,,

I have also changed the BAS/ESP relay,,, that didn't do it,,,,
Brakes are fine,, plenty of pad left,,,rotors look good,,

I have read some other threads about faulty steering column sensors,,,, sounds very expensive,,,

Does anyone have any other possible causes / fixes???

I would hate to have a piece of black electrical tape fixed over the dash light forever.

Regards
Dee

RE: BAS/ESP AGAIN and AGAIN!!!!!!!

Have you tried getting the fault codes read as a starting point?

RE: BAS/ESP AGAIN and AGAIN!!!!!!!

i had the same problem and what fixed it was they replaced both the break and steering at the same-time. if your car has warranty have them do this if its out of warranty just fix the steering.

and have you tried to when the light come on move the wheel full lock left then back to full lock right. but i am sure you have done that and it seems to me that your steering sensor is dead since you have replaced that.

You can keep throwing parts at it and eventually you might venture upon the correct one that may fix it. However, why not spend a dollar and take it to the dealer who can with the Star diagnostic equipment tell you whats wrong immediatly?????

Go to Autozone and get your fault codes read. If you get C11xx codes, it is faulty steering column sensors (Mercedes star bulletin T-B-46.10/17).

Are you sure it was the BAS/ESP when you replaced the brake sensor? Not the BAS/ESP & ABS lights that came on? You probably didn't notice. Reason I point this out is because I've had these two (BAS/ESP/ABS twice and BAS/ESP once) problems and they've had different solutions. The brake switch sensor thing worked well for the when the ABS light also came on. However, in the case where the ABS didn't come on, the shifter was disabled (I had to OFF and restart the truck for the thing to work again). The diagnosis was a faulty control unit (I'll have to look at the repair order to specify the actual control unit), even though I pointed out to the techs that the brake switch did the trick before. Which do you have? While you recollect, I'll see if I can get my old repair orders.

RE: BAS/ESP AGAIN and AGAIN!!!!!!!

There are no "Service Engine" fault codes,,,,MY OBDII tester shows that,,,, however,, I do not have a tester to read the computer codes,, I tried buying one on Ebay ,,, but it sold for $700,,,Does anyone other than MB have the ability to read the computer fault codes?
