New Oil Pump for Changing my ML.. PROBLEM UPLOADING PICTURES??

Just sharing my new oil pump for changing my engine oil. I got it from a boat store here in Houston, TX.

Haven't use it yet but it sure beats in quality and capacity my older oil/fluid pumps that did not have enough capacity for all the oil in my ML engine.

Sweet unit there.

What are they costing? Also does this method effectively remove the used oil as well as letting it just drain for ten minutes?

I was just fixing to ask: Why are you guys using pumps to change your oil? I've been changing mine since I've owned it and have never had any issues draining it from the plug. Plus, it would seem that you would get all of it out from the bottom drain, where you would leave some in using the pump.

RE: New Oil Pump for Changing my ML.. PROBLEM UPLOADING PICTURES??

Well, I am used to changed the engine oil on all my vehicles whenever I can. My ML was different because I took my ML to the dealer until it was 50,000 miles for services.

After the 50,000 mile mark, I used my ramps to raise my ML and began to change my oil. I could not find the right plug/drain extension for my ML so I tried to devise one. It was a bad idea because I made a mistake and my whole upper body was soaked in burnt oil. A had and have a huge oil stain in my garage too. It's almost bleached by now with all the cleaners and molecule breaking agents that I have apply to it.

After that episode, I just decided to use some manual pumps and frankly they were so easy and convenient to use that I decided that that was the way I wanted to go. I tried some other cheaper pumps but they were awkward to stop and empty the container once they filled up at around 4 to 6 quarters.

With this system, it is going to be a snap to change the oil on my vehicle since the filter is up there close to the oil cap. In just a couple of minutes it will be done without having to go under the car. I am not young anymore so it is not that easy to get down there as it was when I was in my teens, 20's, 30's, or early 40's.

The cost is around $120.00 which is ok with me since it is a much better quality, will last for many years, and I can use it for my other family vehicles, too. As a matter of fact, I can extract the engine oil of two smaller vehicles without needing to empty the container..

Once you go “topside, you’ll never want to climb under another vehicle to do an oil change again! I use a hand-pumped Mityvac and it holds 8.8 liters (just over 9 quarts), which is perfect for the ML. I could literally change the oil in an ML in a white dress shirt without fear of getting dirty (well, as long as I was careful with the filter).

RE: New Oil Pump for Changing my ML.. PROBLEM UPLOADING PICTURES??

I have a "topsider" pump for changing oil in my ML and I have to agree, once you used the pump, you'll never want to go back to the "drain plug" method, it makes the job so much easier and cleaner.

By the way, dealers (I know mine does) use the "pump" method to change oil - to save time, I guess.

Do let us know how it works out for you as I'm also thinking about going the "power" route to change engine oil since I am getting older and want something with less "manual labor".
