Hi folks, this is my first post here. I am in the market for a used ML430. I found a potential candidate from pp and want to get some opinions for a fair price:
The car is a black 2000 ML430 with complete service history sold by the first owner with 78k miles on the clock. It is in nice shape (no dings or visible signs of abuse, everything electrical works) passes SMOG with flying colors (important here in SoCal) and has descent tires. No existing warranty. Brake disks might be needed soon but else it runs and drives nice. I noticed no issues during my test drive.
The only issue I found was a slightly wet area around the PS pump despite the recall being completed. I assume the hose clamp needs tightening.
FYI: I am working on aircooled 6-cylinder engines (what might those be [:D]) as a hobby and have successfully rebuilt a 3.6 liter from the ground up that is in my track car. That being said I am not afraid to work on the car if there are minor things.
Well I would offer 15,900. As far as the truck, get the tranny fluid changed or looked at. Expect to have a bad fuel pump or CPS. Expect the window switches to stop working. All these little minor annoyances can be fixed but all in all, it’s a great truck!
Thanks for the data point. I was reading up on the tranny oil change vs. not change discussion yesterday night. I will probably just change it for the peace of mind. The other "little things" do not scare me too much. What I am afraid off is a total failure of the tranny or engine or to discover it burning excessive quantities of oil. I think I have to take a gamble on the latter.
