I am the 2nd owner of my 2002 ml I got it with 16,900 miles on it and I just clicked over to 20k.. When do I need to change the oil? In the past I would do it every 3k miles for my other cars...but what about the ML?
DO I NEED to bring to MB to do it?

To follow up- can you tell me what that inculdes other then just an oil change and what I cam expect to pay?
And is it really ok to go that long without an oil change?
M
They change all bodily fluids....and it is covered in your 4 year / 50,000 mile warranty, so you do not pay a thing. The only thing that is not covered is the obvious.......brakes, tires...etc.
Actually, for Service A & B the ONLY thing that gets changed under the stated fee is the engine oil and filter. All other items are, inspect, measure, check, record, test, etc. Even the cabin air filter and wiper blades cost above and beyond the stated cost of Service B.
In my area, Service A is around $210 and Service B is around $310
The only differences is the degrees to what and how much they inspect.
*Edit* But it is done for free if you are under warranty. But even then, still not air filters, cabin filters, wiper blades etc. Those still cost extra.
Actually, the computer will tell you when it's time to get the oil changed, it's not based on a mileage number (unless you want it to of course). look in the odometer and press the button till you see the display with a wrench on the left. That is a countdown to when you will need the oil change. Your dealer will use that as the milestone for the included servicing. If you bring it in earlier (more than 1000 miles early) The dealer may refuse to do the job or charge you for it. Other fluids vary from mileage to to time interval requirements.
While the changes are free, bring it to the dealer, after that go anywhere you want.
To answer your question..........as long as a good synthetic is used, 10,000 miles is a reasonable interval.
Personally, I recommend the Mobil One 0W40 and if the dealer does it for free, go for it. If they charge a fee, I would recommend you do it yourself using a vacuum pump. Extremely easy and gives you a chance to check other fluids, etc.
Plenty of info on this site and others regarding DIY. Good luck...I'm getting ready to do my 230,000 mile oil change this weekend. Now your biggest challenge is finding a good deal on the 0W40 !!
Oh, and it goes without saying....filter needs changing too, preferably with one of the new fleece types. You can find them online in the $10.00 range.
