Cat replacement. Possible???

I've got a bad blow from the left hand cat and MB are quoting over £700 for a replacement.

Anyone know if its possible to replace the whole system with stainless steel including the cats??

If it's possible, how much should I expect to pay?

There are aftermarket cats in the States

that you can buy [for example from E V O sport dot com in California]which will allow more flow but it will also be louder than stock. I can't speak for Europe but I'm sure there are products there as well. Even if you go the custom route and get an entire catback set up [like I have from supersprint] it will cost you more overall than just replacing the cat at the stealer.

RE: Cat replacement. Possible???

cat replacement is very easy and straight forward. first check to see if yours can be repaired as alot of time cracks can be welded.

RE: Cat replacement. Possible???

Does it just have a bad weld? If so, just remove it and have it heliarced. It is easy to remove as long as removing the torsion bar doens't scare you. There are several discussions about this. If the cat itself is bad you have no easy solutions.

RE: Cat replacement. Possible???

It is bad weld that should be able to be repaired.
My mechanic is going to cut and sleeve the section to make removal / fitting easier.

RE: Cat replacement. Possible???

Had the same thing done at my m class yesterday. After driving through heavy rain, some water slapshed up under the car and hit the first catalytic converter on the passenger side. When the cold water splashed on the hot cat, the weld seal that goes all around the cat cracked. Since then I had a exhaust leak and it sounded horrible.
I took it to a custom exhaust shop in town and they welded it for $60.

RE: Cat replacement. Possible???

Just had a call from the garage, they have repaired the passenger side only to find after starting the car that the drivers side is the same!!!!!

Been quoted £250 for the whole job.
