This is correct. The V8's only run a single electric fan and do run a little hotter than the V6's.
Why? I don't know but I can only guess the following:
The V6's have more room in the engine compartment so they put the belt driven fan in but it's not enough by itself with the A/C, etc on so they put in the 2 electrics. The V8's have less room between the motor and the radiator so they only put 1 enourmous electric fan in.
The V8's run hotter because it's a V8 or because they have to run it hotter for emissions. Caddilac is famous for running their engines at 215+ degrees just to get them to pass emissions.
Both my 00 430 and my 05 500 SE ran/run no hotter than 95C or 203F no matter the outside air temp or grade %. The 430 had a engine fan and 2 electric fans in front of the radiator. The 500SE has 1 electric fan aft of the radiator. My test has always been the grade coming west out of Stateline Nv. on I-15. I just recently pulled that hill when the outside air temp was 107F and the 500 stayed right on 95C. With a 20# pressure cap on the cooling system you're a long ways from boiling. BTW if you park when the engine temp is 90C or above you'll hear the high pitch whine of the big electric fan start up when you start the engine. I imagine that's what keeps the engine temp at 95C and no higher when it's hot out! The V-6's probably don't generate enough power to get hot! [8D]
My experience it runs around 25 degrees hotter then 00 ml320
yes i talked to the SA who explained me the main reason behind that was to pass the emissions
but my experience the hotter the engine the fast the seals and gaskets go bad due to contraction and expansion
and since 02 ml 500 and 03 models they took out the clutch fan and only have one big electric fan
