The dealer said the battery was ok, so we didn't get a new one. Our VES still needs a special procedure to switch on every time. I have not had time to do any component swapping, and if my procedure keeps working (works 100%), I'll probably not do it soon (we just had a baby about a month ago, so I prioritize my "free" time quite ruthlessly []).
What I do, is switch the key to the on position without starting the car, check that the green light on the DVD player comes on (about a second or so), and then start the car. This seems to work every time.
Hope this helps...
