lock box removal and audio questions

Hey people! Just installed an AVIC-N2 in the ML and need to know how to remove the lock box under the front passenger seat. I had to put in a small amp to keep the stock sub in use and the "brain" for the nav system down there. However, it sticks out too far into the back passenger floor space. I thought about removing the lock box to move the amp and "brain" further under the seat. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to remove the lock box or a different place to put the components? I decided not to put those 2 items underneath the backseats so that I could keep folding the backseats down when I need to. Also I may be putting an OEM CD changer for sale, since I'm having compatibility issues with the head unit. It just won't work with the Pioneer head unit and I will have to replace the cd changer with a Pioneer changer.

RE: lock box removal and audio questions

You can simply pull the lock box out from its sliders. I woul suggest puting the brain in the rear of the center console. Basically behind and on the bottom of where the stereo is. There is plenty of space back there, it's just hard to wire up initially.

Can't you put the amp inside the lock box? Is there room for your wires to maybe come out the back of it?

This is what I did to remove my lock box, I took the entire seat because this thing was held by 4 little screw on the seat frame, then I installed my DVD system under the seat.[:)]

four small screws...
easy removal with a small philips head screwdriver. move your seat alllll the way forward for easiest access to the back two screws

RE: lock box removal and audio questions

MLOffRoad: We tried putting the "brain" in the rear center, however, there was just a lot of crap down there and it(brain) was a little bit wider than the center hump and would not sit there steadily.

JimB: So there is no way of removing the lock-box without removing the seat? I'm asking because during the install. My SRS cable on the front passenger seat was accidentally cut by the installer and rendered the seat belt unusable since it is locked in "crash" position. I have scheduled to have the seatbelt system fixed by the dealership and the installer is picking up the tab. I was thinking maybe when the dealer works on the car I could just get them to remove the lock-box then.
