I've got my MB ML320 more than one year ago and have a problem with the dashboard at night time. The instrument cluster is lighted properly at night time though.
The lights on the dashboard do not work when I turn the engine on at night. However, all dashboard lights work fine when I leave the front lights on but turn off the engine.
Does anybody nave any ideas what can be wrong? Thanks!
Hard to tell from your description but I do not think anything is wrong. Dash lights come on with the vehicle lights. Engine on or off does not mean a thing with this other than the mileage readout.
So what you are saying is this: With the engine off and the key not in the ignition, you switch on the headlights and the instrument panel and dash accessory lights (A/C controls, MCS buttons, etc.) illuminate. If the engine is running and you switch on the headlights, the instrument panel illuminates, but the dash accessories do not, but if you switch the engine off with the headlights still on, these lights then illuminate? Is that correct? If so, that’s about the strangest thing I’ve heard! The only thing I can suggest is that you check the position of the lighting dimmer on the instrument cluster (the left-hand stalk that also resets the trip odometer) to see if turning it makes any difference. If not, is anything else strange about your ML? Maybe it’s an AAM going bad? Or maybe there is a fuse somewhere that is blown?

That is correct. :) I've already checked all fuses and turned the lighting dimmer knob to the maximum.
This problem does not bother me a lot but I just wanted to see if there is a quick fix or this problem could couse some other problems like damaging the AAM.
If I switch the headlights ON when the ignition switch is in position 2 (with engine ON or OFF), then the instrument panel illuminates, but the dash accessories do not illuminate.
The dash accessories illuminate only when the ignition switch is in position 1 (with engine OFF obviously) and headlights still ON.
