Dizzy navigation

I get plenty of satellites and the point of the arrow is in the right place but the orientation keeps spinning. Pretty useless as it is. Any hints? I know it gets wheel info but I thought that was for ue in absence of sat data (in tunnels, garages, ect).

Craig, perhaps try resetting the orientation in the setup to "Facing North" and then resetting it back to the direction of travel? What an odd problem!

Good luck!

That's not that unusual. I just keep driving until the gyro resyncs, takes about 10 minutes or so on mapped roads. Playing around with the orientation like Drew suggested might help as well. This behaviour is yet another indication the MCS is consumer grade and not a commercial grade NAV.

RE: Dizzy navigation

l've always found that when l leave it on "always north"..l have less problems....l've been told by my SA, that when you leave it on directional, it causes the processor to work extremely hard, hence problems arise....Does this sound familiar to anyone ???

Crappy nav

It has cured itself (It's a miracle!).

What is sad is that the 164 nav doesn't seem much better. It points to real problems with MB engineering. Better nav software has been available for several years (go look at a new Acura TL) yet MB refuses to use it. Those vendors would sell it to MB if they wanted it. I once spoke to several OEM vendors (not nav) at the Frankfurt car show and they all said that MB had the worst "not invented here" attitude of all the manufacturers. I guess these smart guys are the ones who invented the E class electronic brakes!

When the 163 nav was introduced in 2001 it was long in the tooth. The 164 nav is just a repeat. Uh, why is it we like MB's?

The MCS is supplied by the same vendor as the Acura TL, likley using the same consumer grade gyro and software algorithms. Also used in the Acura MDX, Acura TSX, Honda Accord, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and probably a few others.

Bosch/Blaupunkt supplied systems usually use a different gyro, made by Bosch's MEMS division in house. [:D]
