My VES (Vehicle Entertainment System) is acting up lately. It turns on intermittently in response to turning the ignition on and off. What I mean is that for every 10 time I try to turn on the ignition only on 3 occasions would the VES be on. Any thoughts please help. Thanks.
I've noticed in the last few weeks that our system also comes on intermittently when you start the car. I suspect that our battery may be failing - I'll have the dealer check it when the ML goes in for its (first where I have to pay:-) B-service next week.
If we hesitate a tiny fraction of a second between moving the key to the ON position and starting the car, it seems to work much better. I think it has something to do with the system getting an "ON" message and "OFF" message in quick succession. It seems to come on every time if I just move the ignition to ON, without starting the car.
Another option is that it may be heat related, but I doubt that - it does this regardless of the time of day.
I have a spare VES that I bought since they were so cheap, in case something goes wrong. If the dealer okays the battery, I may start by swapping out the control module under the glove box.
