Fuel gauge Problem and more!

Well I went out to Ashville NC today. And it is about a 40 minute trip from Western to there. I was cruising with my windows open and going a steady 60mph +-5mph. And my Fuel gauge seemed to dip really fast. Went from full tank to half a tank in about 20 miles. But my Trip told me I had 270mi left. I really don’t know what is going on, anybody experience this?

Here is my other problem, my rear view mirror seems to have a weird line of discoloration to it. Look at the attached picture. I don’t know of the chemical that dims the light is just evaporating or if it is just time to buy a new one.

Thanks guys!

RE: Fuel gauge Problem and more!

My mirror did that to ... its the auto dimming chemicals. Time to look for one at a junkyard since they are well over $500 for a new one.

As for the fuel guage do the fuel guage reset.

How do i do the reset?
Since the forum search is down…

Turn the ignition switch to position 2, but do not start the engine. Locate the fuel sender harness connector along the frame, slightly ahead of the rear driver’s side wheel. Unplug the connector, and then reconnect it. Turn the ignition to position 0, then back to position 2, and you should see your gauge recalibrated. If this does not work, repeat the procedure, but with the harness disconnected, cycle the ignition switch from position 2, back to 0, then back to 2. You will have to reconnect the harness with the ignition in position 2, though.

If this still does not work, you may have a problem with the actual gauge in the instrument cluster. In fact, given that you said the TC’s display of DTE was the same, this may be the case, because it and the fuel gauge both get the same sender reading from the CAN bus, so they should be pretty much in sync.
