How to reset the FSS counter

How do you reset the FSS counter on a 2000 ML320. The guy at the shop wants to charge me $85 to reset the counter. I'm sure this is something that i can do with some instruction. Thanks in advance.

There have been some recent threads on this exact topic just in the last two months. $85 to reset?! That is just a total ripoff. Shame on your MB tech. As far as I know FSS reset is a no charge item when you do an oil service. It takes very little time and very little effort.

RE: How to reset the FSS counter

With the engine stopped, turn the ignition switch to position 2 and within 5 seconds, press the odometer reset button twice. Turn the ignition switch to position 1, then press and hold the odometer reset button while turning the ignition switch back to position 2. Continue to hold the reset button until the buzzer sounds and/or the new service interval is displayed on the odometer.

These instructions should also be in your owner’s manual. I only posted this because (a) it’s Friday, (b) I thought you might not be the original owner and not have the manual and (c) the forum search function is down.

You're a cool cat, Rudeney![:D] I've posted on this twice, I think, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it again. His manual was probably like mine and MIA! I had to order one and they charged me 25.00 for it!

I've done the reset several times and it still takes me two or three tries to get it right!![:(!]

Thinking out loud (TOL), I wonder when that search will be back on line. I remember seeing a post on it but when I tried to search for it . . .[:(]

BTW, How's the dealer service in Birmingham. Is it better than Huntsville??

I don’t know as I’ve only used Crown in Birmingham, so I cannot compare it to other MBZ dealers (compared to other luxury dealers in the area, they are about the worst, though). One of my biggest complaints with Crown have been the lack of loaners. They use Enterprise, who charges $35/day (Crown picks up $15/day for warranty work) for a non-MBZ rental. You can get a C-class for an additional $10/day. Even when they have to keep your car overnight because of ordering parts and such, they will give you a hard time about covering the loaner.

They are always very busy and some of the SA’s are total asses. The service manager is a real jerk, too, and he could not care less about customer service.
The only reason I get any level of decent service from them is because I once worked there (decided I needed some sales experience in between consulting gigs) so I know them all pretty well (especially the shop foreman and one of the senior mechanics). My SA knows when I bring my tuck in, it better be one fo them that works on it or else I’ll be complaining if the work is not perfect. If you ever want to try them, the ONLY SA to use is JW Johnson. The others are all either too new or too crappy. If you do see JW, tell him I said hello and that I sent you (I won’t get anything out of it, but you might get slightly better attention).

Thanks Rodney! I'll be in Birmingham Tuesday a.m. (7-12). If I have time, I'll stop by and check them out on a little problem I have with the knocking sound in the rear end.[:)]

RE: How to reset the FSS counter

Here in Atlanta, Georgia DONT ever go to RBM in Roswell. This STEALERSHIP once told me on the lo-lo (Management) that their loaners were STRICTLY for individuals that purchased their Benzs' from RBM and that they belonged to their Sales Department. All others who bought Benzs' elsewhere are ASS-OUT. I complained to MB of America who gave me the old BLAH-BLAH about them being an independent agent. Needless to say I've never been back. Always go to Mercedes Benz of Buckhead they treat you like ROYALTY so they get my business.[:)]Your text here

RE: How to reset the FSS counter

Mercedes Benz of Naperville (Illinois) is the same way - their loaners are for people who bought there only - they sent Enterprise up the street to get me a car. [:(]
