hi
i have a 02 ml320 and my back right door is acting up. when i hit the door lock button all the doors lock except the back right, you can hear it try to lock it clicks sound like its trying to lock but something is pushing it back up just keeps clicking for a couple seconds but never locks. i have to manually push down the lock.
Something in the lock unit is either detached or more likely broken. You have to get in there to determine which one it is. My money is you will need to replace it.
I had one that broke, small plastic piece involved with moving the lock up and down. Replace job.

Sounds like you have a problematic door lock actuator. Since your ML seems like it is still under warranty, bring it into your dealer and explain the situation. They should know what to do and change the part for the "machine gunning lock".
The up-down-up-down motion is actually a self-test of the microswitch to ensure that the door is locked. Clearly yours has now gotten to the point that it needs to be replaced.

It is a failed micro switch in the power door lock assy. There are two micro switches in there and you cannot buy them from MB. You have to buy a complete power door lock assy. See my reply of 7/3 to door lock button.

just had the same thing happen to my right rear door. It would try to lock itself but remain unlocked. They replaced the lock actuator. I have a warranty on mine but if i had to pay it would have been $337 to have it fixed.

Has just happened to my rear hatch door. I can manually lock from the inside and it will unlock, but it will not lock back. I disassembled the POS and found that the plastic plunger (solenoid) that activates the lock is broken.
I think all the locks are el cheapo pizza crapola[:D]
