For safety sake the golden rule is that when you increase stock wheel size by X2 you MUST increase your brake disk diameter - or you defy the vehicle's design thresholds and create an unsafe situation.
BTW - the 'swim' effect is also know sometimes as 'bumpsteer' and is common among lower profile tires - there is usually a steering brace that is needed to correct this and at highway speeds this characteristic can be dangerous. I would consult the AMG house or see if there is an additional brace available from a dealer.
You are serious? I thought I simply put wheels on and thats all........
Anyone whom got 20s did anything from listed above???
I'm not sure about the theory that one should plus size the brakes when they plus size the rims. Granted bigger rims are often heavier and move the mass out to the edge (more angular momentum), but I would imagine that most manufacturers compensate for this. The trick to brakes is that if you can get ABS to kick in rotor size isn't the limiting factor - road traction is. With my 20" rims on it's a lot harder to do thanks to the 295mm width but I still can. It's also important to note that the ML55 has the same brakes as the ML 430/500 and runs 285/55-18 stock.
I also haven't had much of a problem with the wheels tracking the groove in the road, but maybe I'm just used to it or the ML55 beefier sway bars help.
Forgive my ignorance, I'm clueless when it comes to these wheel sizes.
So which of these provides the most sidewall on a 20" wheel?
265/50-20 30.4
295/40-20 29.2
295/45-20 30.4
The last number is the outer diameter, so it seems as though the 265/50 and 295/45 are about the same. First number is the width, second is the aspect ratio, third is rim diameter, fourth is outer diameter (calculated).
