Last month I decided to keep my 03 ML500 for long term as I don't want to spend another 20k to upgrade to something with slightly better fuel economy. I usually replace my car in less then 4 years, so extended waranty never came aross my mind at the time of purchasing the vehicle.
Last week I took my car back for B service at 40,000 miles. I request to get a quote for extended service of 7 yrs 100,000 miles. After 3 days, I got a call back from my service advisor indicating since the car already had 40,000 miles, the only extended service available would be from FORD Motor company. The cost is $5000 w/$200 deductable. I was shocked as I believe thats about the maximum I would spend on repair without waranty, so I declined it.
Can I count on my ML500 to last me another 3 years trouble free. Well at least free of major issue. Any suggestion of what I should do? Thanks.

Call Contact Lisa Lehrbaum at 1-800-655-3535 to purchase a MB extended warranty. She might give tou a better deal. Alot of members on the board have bought ext. warranty through her.
I went thru Warranty Direct for my 01 Chevy Malibu - beat every other quote I got by $400. I got the 10 year, 125K warranty so it was good until 195K miles. I then sold it 3 months later and contacted them for a refund. I got almost all my money back with no hassles. Great experience!
I am always nervous about making claims with these 3rd party warranties...I am used to getting a warranty direct from the manufacturer, such as the extended warranty I have on my Dodge Viper, which is awesome, and only cost ~ 1300 for 4 years and up to 75K miles...The MBZ warranties (at least on the ML's) seem to be a rip off, probably indicative of the poor quality on these vehicles...
MBZ should offer reasonably priced ext warranties due to the sub standard quality of the vehicles, otherwise, I hope they made a lot of money on my purchase of this vehicle, because I won't buy another new MBZ...
I bought a seven year Starmark with our ML, and am very glad I did so. Try http://www.autowarrantybroker. I purchased a warranty for my BMW from them. It was by far the cheapest coverage available, and is backed by an honest-to-goodness-American insurance company.
Honestly, why don't you just pay for your own repairs? You will most likely save money. I currently have two Mercedes vehicles out of warranty and drove another Mercedes over 200,000 miles, so I have plenty of experience in this regard.
There is a repair now and then, but I never have to argue whether or not the repair is covered by some questionable (and overpriced) 3rd party warranty.

price their coverage but you can be sure they are priced to make money above all possible potential payouts. While 1 for every so many automobiles will cause them to lose money...you might not want to take the chance that you have one of those MLs that will require repairs that cost more than the policy. We've all spent lots of money on life, home, car, et al. insurance and I for one have not made any claims for any of it[I'm particularly hopefull the life insurance doesn't come calling any time soon!!!].
I'm letting my ML ride without repair coverage. All of the fixes I've needed since my original factory warranty expired would not have been covered anyway. If you can afford the warranty it provides piece of mind. I, like DelJ, am more of a risk taker and it has "paid off" so far...
I got my warranty from Lisa. She was great. We got the 7 year 100K from her for $1,500. However, i recal the rules are that you could only get this warranty during the first year of ownership.
I am going thru a similar situation. I have a 1999 ML430 with just 35,000 miles but needless to say the warranty has expired. In order to get an extended warranty prices are all over the place which makes me wonder how reliable some of these companies are.
Any good, reliable companies out there you guys would recommend?
