RE: headlight question

'02 - '05 projector halogen or bi-xenon headlight housings will fit your '99 w163. IF you do a search on the topic you'll see many people have in fact done this mod, including myself.

RE: headlight question

I bought the 2004 Halogen Headlight assembly for my 98 ML320 on eBay. I was told that it will fit the older ML's to achieve the updated look.

I am still waiting for it to arrive so that I can install it. The thing is that it does not come with the adapters. Does anyone know where I can purchase the adapters? or is there a DIY instructions to re-wire the harness?

Please help. Thanks

The pigtail adapters came with my bi-xenons purchased through

performance products dot com. You can check with them to see if they will sell it to you directly or you can always get them through an MB parts dealer. I don't have the part number. Perhaps someone else can chime in with that info...

Thanks ... I tried the dealer earlier and they had no clue what I was talking about. After calling PP as you suggested, they were willing to sell the adapters separately. Woo hoo!!! Thanks a million!

Your headlights may come ready for plug-and-play. I ordered my bi-xenons from an eBay seller in Miami (sorry – I don’t recall the seller's name, but he had many sets available) and they were advertised as such. He actually modifies the receptacles on the headlamp buckets themselves to attach to the “old (1998-2001) style connectors. It was a simply install and I am quite happy with them.

RE: headlight question

teflon_don,

To be legal in Germany you need to the whole bang!
Xenon,Headlight Washers, Autoleveling with sensors on the rear axel!.

If you just want the daytime looks, you can mount clear glass halogens.

If you still want the XENONS, they will cost approx 500 Euros on ebay!

I've done my German/Swiss ML270CDI with XENONS. Send me an email and I'll give you the details.

Essentially
1. Modify the headlight as per AndyFacica's post (Ignore the rewiring, just make the mod to the
headlight - double grounding)
I just pulled out the wires from the harness plug with a set of pliers, and pushed the wire back into the correct hole in the plug.
2. Rewire as per my email (completely different for the european model)
3. Aim headlight as per
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html
Don't use a "Kreuzschlitz" (philips) screwdriver, it damages the soft plastic adjusting screws.
4. Replace both "7.5" fuses with "20" fuses

cheers

I do believe changing the fuses from 7.5A to 20A is a misunderstanding and is not necessary, and is therefore not desirable!

Have you tried it with the 7.5A fuses?

RE: headlight question

Not really,
Initially I hade "7.5" in them, and it worked.....but I thought I should put in the "20" like everyone else kept saying (supposedly draws more power when warming up) just to be on the safe side!.

RE: headlight question

Well, I think the 20amp fuse mod. was for pre-2002 models only, you might be able to confirm this by lots of searching.

My advice (for what it may be worth) is to put the 7.5amp fuses back as otherwise you are downgrading the protection your fuses are supposed to be providing.
