ML430 1999 high pitch noise? - Benzworld.org

What could cause a high pitch sound at start up, lasting about 1-2 minutes under the plastic cover of the engine, mid-section top? v8 engine

Did you read down the page? Except for the location, sounds like the e-box fan. Sometimes sounds are hard to pinpoint.

Not that! This sound comes from the top of my engine under the plastic cover. There is another Bosch fan on top in the front of the V8. This runs after start up and has a high pitch fan sound. Do you what this doe's and what can be done about the winey sound. Never use to make this sound. It runs for only about 1 minute. I had the cover off the fuse and wire section and that fan is not making the noise.

that's an electric air pump for the emissions system. It only runs at startup for a minute or so. I still have the original, in a 99 ML320, and it's quiet.

Is this an easy fix taking it apart to lube? Any oil points on the bosch fan motor?

Love my 1999 ML430 BUT! Thank the man upstairs for my extended warranty. In the past 4 months I have had the drivers seat heater replaced, Power Window switchs, R&L Back Ball joints, Front control arms, transverse C, front end alignment, One left front shock which i think they should have done both sides-MB wants me to buy the right side shock, BAS light replaced-lampswitch, Air Mass sensor, Fixed a bad key and replaced a leaky trans electrical connector.

Back in 2002 the Instrument cluster r&r and light was replaced, sunroof trim sealed, L&R rear Shocks and front L&R axle lower ball joints.

I asked for new tires but i could not get it out of them.

I also have a 99 ML430 V8, and every now and then it makes that noise. Seems to make it more often when its cold, but it usually stops after the engine warms up. My wife is the main driver of the vehicle, and I usually don't find these things out until I drive the vehicle on the weekend to put gas in it, and have it washed.

Like wolfgang said, I don't believe it's anything.
