window trim faded again!

this is the second time since i owned my car that the window trims fading. the top coat is peeling and everything.

the funny thing is, rarely drive this car since the dealer changed the trim and i park in a garage both at home and at work.

im starting to think it's the carwash soap. has anyone suspected soap?

has anyone tried to replace this on their own?

stop using acid on your car?

Haven't had it on mine. 4 yrs old, sits in the sun all day and the weather here in Boston is lots more extreme than san jose :-)

I do put 303 protectant on it once in a while. The trim up on the roof is fading, but I used Griot's back to black stuff on it and it's ok now.

That's old news, better cut your losses, the window trim has been like that since inception of the W163.
I actually never bothered having them changed, could not care less anymore, I have, however, had them change the plastic film that covers the doors where they meet the B pilar, these keep shrinking, shrivelling like a old d!ck and pulling from the window trim. Shame on MB.

Yeah, at your age better start sending Easter cards too. What's up Jim?
The trim can be replaced at the dealer or at home if you are handy. Here in the desert, when I got my car it was already faded, so they changed it at the stealer a week later. Now is like fading again, but I don't care anymore. I parked the car outside, under shade, carwashed every month or so. Just enjoy driving my car more than showing it.

RE: window trim faded again!

I had all 4 window trims replaced twice already in the last 18 mths of service. It looks utterly ugly to have a cracked and faded window trim on a $50K vehicle, especially in front of clients. In my opinion, MBZ has cut corners in the ML and used really really cheap quality materials. I asked my SA - Do you use the same crappy trim in E, S and other classes. He said no they use a hard plastic trim for all other classes which is more durable and does't fade at all. But for the ML, for some reason they use this cheap rubber trim which is prone to fading. Live with it or get it changed.
