Anyone have the part number for the cable that goes from the GPS Splitter/Amp (A-163-820-1289) to the square plug in the back of the DVD Nav drive I've installed in the MCS? I also need the cable that goes from the antenna feed to the amp as well, since they both have male connectors...
Unfortunately, the parts department at my local dealer claims that these are only available in a complete NAV install kit, so I figured I'd ask the real experts here...

The cable from the antenna in the rear should screw right into the splitter/GPS amplifier:

any idea what the connector name is for that coax connector?
I'm trying to figure out how to hardwire a bluetooth GPS receiver (which takes a tiny MCX connector) to the roof antenna.
On my 2001, I think I just need to buy the splitter that goes under the passenger seat and instead of routing the new cable to the MCS, I'll route it to my GPS receiver :-)
RE: any idea what the connector name is for that coax connector?
ken, I'd just use the antenna which comes with the unit and mount it inside somewhere like Frank.
Or scraping your TeleAid, use a "FME" connector and the splitter. If you want to keep the TeleAid, you also need a relay/HF switch, probably not worth the trouble.....
I ordered the part you looked up for me and used it to connect the plug labelled "GPS" on the splitter/amp to the square input on the back of DVD drive in the MCS. It was perfect! However, I next plugged the only available cable that could go into the "Antenna" plug of the splitter/amp. Unfortunately, I still can't get any satellite signal, and the satellite icon on the map still has a big red X through it [V]. There is another RG58U cable in there, but it has a male end and it can't go into the splitter/amp. Is it possible that THAT is the antenna feed? I'm thinking maybe what I plugged in was a phone cable and not the antenna cable....
That should be the correct cable. The antenna might not be screwed in tight enough and might not make contact. One can trace the 5 Volts coming from the NAV on the antenna coax (center 5 Volt, shield at ground) to the splitter and then via the antenna coax all the way to the rear to the foot of the antenna. Right at the antenna bottom it should read 5 Volts on the center tap, ground on the ring, once it's properly connected.
The below pic shows how I've wired the GPS amp/splitter. I believe the cable in B goes to the rear antenna on the roof, and C plugs into the square plug in the back of the DVD drive. To measure, I unplugged B, and with the ML running and the MCS on, checked the voltage on B from the center pin to the outside metal around the pin, and I didn't get any voltage whatsoever. So if there isn't 5V here, there won't be 5V at the antenna either, right? Anything else I should check before I give up and take it in to the dealer?
The 5 Volts comes from the MCS NAV DVD unit, so it must be switched on for the test and the cable to leading from it to the connector C on the splitter must be connected since that is how the 5 Volt comes to connector B.
It may be more direct to measure the voltage directly on the square GPS antenna connector to verify it's supplied from there (and maybe check for a blown fuse?)
So the MCS Nav was on during the test, as the map was visible (albeit with an X throught the satellite icon), and C was also in. I also did what you suggested and tried seeing if there were 5V at the square plug in the back of the drive. I wasn't too sure how to do this, but I attached one lead to the center pin and another to the metal contact around it. Didn't get anything there either. Starting to look like a bad drive huh?
