ETS and Low Range failure - '98 ML320

120k on SUV, will not engage low range, ETS light on and traction control is not functioning.

Both seemed to happen at the same time a while ago when I tried the low range.

Am very mechanically capable, and will accept any and all responses gratefully....

Best to all!

RE: ETS and Low Range failure - '98 ML320

I had an issue a while ago when my low range would not engage. The low range light would just flash but no action. Fortunately for me it was replaced under extended MB warranty (I had about 145,000KM at the time). My ETS did not flash however so perhaps yours will hopefully not need to be replaced.

What steps do you use to engage low range???
You have to stop the truck, put it in neutral, push the low range button on the dash, the low range light will flash tree times and stay lit on the third flash Viola!!! you are in low range. Same steps to take it out of low range.

Believe on the 98 you must have your foot on the brake in addition to the other steps ypou mentioned

Huh... Are you serious??? I thought that was a given.... It seems unnatural to not have your foot on the brake when doing that operation... wouln't the truck roll.[?]

At first they thought it was some little motor in the transfer case(someone a little more savvy can prob jump in and tell the actual part). But.. I guess when they got it opened up they realized it was really F'd. They replaced my whole transfer case. 2 Days in the shop.[:0]. At least I got a "free" T-case fluid chage[:)]
