brake replacement parts, Germanstar? parts any good?
Need to purchase front rotors and pads, and also rear pads (rear rotors might be ok, 35k miles on em). Local repair shop quoted about 1000 dollars for all 4 rotors and pads to be changed! ouch! Anywhere I can get the same OEM brake parts for cheaper? Don't really want to go aftermarket. The brake wear light has not come on yet but you have to push the pedal down very far for the brakes to "catch" (fluid was flushed recently and did not help) and they have about 35k on them. What do you guys think?
edit: I searched and read that stewart had a problem with Germanstar... any other suggestions?

I have used germanstar before and had no problems. I've also used tirerack and others like thepartsbin dot com. Check around and do more searches since this topic has been discussed many times. I just purchased four rotors and pads at all corners for something like $250 in parts. I was going to install it this weekend but never got around to it. Will try again next Saturday.
RE: brake replacement parts, Germanstar? parts any good?
Over 3 months ago I installed brake pads on my 99 ML430, that I bought from Advance Auto Parts, Wearever Silver's, and to this day working very well. No Noise, and the stopping power is the same as it was with the OEM's. I believe I paid $36.00 for the Wearever Silver's for the front pads, they came with the Sensor. The following link is for the pads;
The one thing to notice, and one other person on this forum said it wasn't true, but I've been using Wearever's on all my vehicles, and I've had no problem returning them after I've used them, is the "Lifetime Replacement Warranty". Now I'm not saying this works the same everywhere, but in Va Beach, I take the old worn out pads in and exchange them for a new pair of pads "No Cost". I've been doing this with all my vehicles. For my 1998 Toyota Tacoma, I've only paid for pads once, same for my 1999 Lexus, 1997 BMW, and now it's going to be the same for my 1999 ML430. I'll keep you posted.
Install the brake pad yourself, it's so easy.
Search the forum for the DIY instructions.
Good Luck

I'm now getting ready to change the rotor's and brake pads for the rear for the second time. Last changed in July 2004, vehicle had approx 47,000 miles when I changed the rear pads. Vehicle has over 104,000 on the advance auto brake pads I put on back in 2004. Awesome, approx 57,000 miles on a pair of brake pads.
