I'm planning to change all the interior light bulbs (11 festoon type 6418 bulbs and two 194 type bulbs) of the ML. As all ML owners may notice, all the interior lighting automatically dimms when the door is open or closed.
Does anyone know if the LED bulbs are dimmable? Will I need load equalisers for the LED bulbs upgrade?

I am also planning to change all the interior lights, but I need to know on how to open up or replace the lights without breaking the casing.

I haven't done this in the ML but have done it in my Camry.
Replaced the center shifter 194 with a superwhite-matrix LED w/o any problems or load equalizer. It is nice and white.
When I repalced the festoon in the camry, it blew out or the bulb was defective. I got a replacement but have not tried it yet. Will let you know how that goes.
I don't think the LED's will dim. Once the current drops to a certain level, the LED will shutoff. But it should remain on upto that point.

Opening the casing is really easy (before opening carefully observe the casing to "unlock" the clips):
1) All four door step/courtesy light casing - use a really thin flat head screwdriver or small knife and push on the tab on the left side.
2) The two map lights located in the rear-view mirror - use the same thin flat head or small knife and pop open on one end.
3) The rear push lights above the rear doors - use thin flat head or small knife and pop out the side where u "push" to turn on lights.
4) Rear trunk light - use thin flat head or small knife and pop out the side that is facing the rear trunk door.
5) The front dome lights above the rear-view mirror - use thin flat head or small knife and pop open the end closes to the moonroof.
All festoon bulbs are easily replaced by pull it out of its "socket." The bulbs in the map light located in the rear-view mirror....u'll have to disassemble the casing in order to pull/pop the bulb out of its socket. It's quite easy.....as long as u carefully observe the bulb and casing before doing anything to it. Good luck! Please report any results or inputs you may have on this forum.......thanks!

Thanks for the info, Maneesh! Already placed my orders for the bulbs. If anyone is interested, I ordered my bulbs here (reasonably priced too!):
1) http://www.superbrightleds.com
2) http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm
3) http://www..com
I don't have the bulbs yet, so I don't know how well they perform. But I will report how it goes after installing them. I did install the 1) snake LED's; 2) rear parking and brake LED bulbs; 3) 3rd LED Brake light; 4) 4th LED Brake strip light; and 5) back off light signal modulator..........all from www. f m m .com and they work great! Very bright and effective! Should have installed a long time ago.....

i have a hard time using the the flat head/thin knife coz I dont know where to pry in this part (rear push light above the rear doors)I cant see the part to pry and I dont want to break it. USF, can you post a pic where and how, please. Thank you. The other part was "easy" only this rear doors area.
