I leased an MY2001 ML320, i've got one more year on it, but i am approaching 50,000 soon, and my warranty ends. Do you guys reccomend buying an extended warranty for a little over $2000? Worth it? I am pretty advanced DIYer, but don't like to work on the internals of the engine.
What common problems can i have checked when i drop off my car for service next week?
I have been lurking on this forum, as i spend my time in the w126 forum, so i might have missed some of the things discussed.
I have had quite a few little problems with this car, but nothing critical. The car is going in to have the dead wiper motors repaired, fuel meter (again), flickering gauge lights, and clunking sunroof checked.
Problems that i can remember that have been worked on:
Fried trip computer, fuel meter, seat memory (or lack of it), lousy window buttons, a recall regarding the coolant i believe, stuck caliper, dead battery, and some other things i don't remember right now.
First of all, have all the recall stuf taken care of. Then if you plan to buy the truck at the end
of your lease, AND you plan to keep it for a long while, get the extended warranty - you know that you'll have to get aftermarket since the MB xtended has to be purchased within the first year of ownership!! If on the other hand you don't plan to keep the truck, don't waste your money. Statistically, the worst that would happen is minor if you drive reasonably the last year.
Is the $2K for one year???? If you can get 1yr xtended for a reasonable price, then do so if it'll give you peace of mind. But I really don't see what major item could go wrong at this point in the truck's life.

My 2002 is at 42k, and I have the 7 year/100k warranty. They replaced the "computer" for the locking system/alarm last week. Forgot to replace the sunroof deflector. Over $1000 for head gasket, which has been a popular repair on the 320 engine. The list of high-dollar stuff that could go wrong is huge.
MY SA says that MB does sell warranties up until the last month/1000 miles before warranty ends. $1500-2500, depending on coverage.
If I were keeping it, I would buy the warranty. If I were selling it, I might still buy the warranty.

It is absolutely RARE to see the headgasket fail on the M112 engine (3.2 l v6) used throughout the Mercedes line - C320, SL320, ML320, E320, S320, SLK320, CLK320.
Where'd you hear that it's a popular repair?
(knocking on wood now)
