... FOUND SOME TRACES OF PLATE MATERIAL, METAL SHAVINGS, WHEN CHECK FLUID LEVEL FOUND ADAPTION DATA ON 2-3 AT 99 AND 150 ALSO FOUND 3-4 AT 81 AND 165)
************************************

what was exactly is adaption data??
Denis -

I don't know anything about transmissions. My only experience is that the transmission on my 99 ML needed to be rebuilt last year at 35,000 miles. I actually was at the dealer today doing a follow-up check on my transmission and the shop foreman referenced the same thing.

I think that 2-3 and 3-4 mean between 2nd gear and 3rd gear, etc... I think that the values 99, 150, 81, 165 are specific measurements that determine if the plates that cause the gears to change from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are within or outside of a certain specification.

I am not sure if this is correct and I certainly don't know if those values are within the specs.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge can clarify.

roadsession where did you go to get this done?

just wondering was there anyone else around MA that got a price cheaper than $400?
I got this done at Chambers Motor Cars in Somerville.
$300 is the tranny only. $100 is transfer case. Total $400. When I was doing the tranny fluid change, the Master Mechanic (who transports his family in a used 1999 ML he bought) recommended I change transfer case fluid too...

I've talked to my other SA from Nor Cal and she took my numbers and showed it to her mechanic and she said those numbers are data to see if my tranny is slipping or not. She said my tranny is very healthy by the numbers.

RE: Transmission & Transfer Case Fluid Changed

I am also from the boston area. So chambers motorcars did the fluid change? was it flushed or just drain and fill? Did they drain the Torque convertor as well? I spoke to hatch and sons and was going to have them do it, but i think i might have chambers do it now...

Hi, as I understand, it's only drained and refilled. But their draining procedure gets almost everything out of the system and then they refill...I believe that it involved entire transmission system (which probably includes torque converter).

But if you are close to Chambers, I would drop by and ask them the question first hand.

Highly recommend doing this!

BTW: if you do this at other than the dealer, make sure they actually have the tools to measure and fill fluid level properly
