LM-5 Lorinser & Need new Tires

My ML is showing so much under her wheel fenders -- her tail lights are blushing. The pics are kind of funny, because the wheels are GREAT -- but the tires are a BIG mismatch and NOT for ML. My new Toyo 295/45-20 SUV tires will be mounted this Wed., the front torsion bar adjusted (up) 1.5 inch and a alignment done.

The short story is the guy sellng these Lorinser's had Pirelli PZero 30 series tires mounted (on a SL55)and was selling them as a package. I have always like these wheels --- but had never seen them on a ML, and even with buying new tires it was a great deal. Once, the proper size tires are mounted it should look real good .... smaller wheel gap, and so on. The rear rims are a inch wider in the back (10 inches), and total tire size is same. (So there is no problem with -- ESP)

Very nice. One problem is you can't have staggered rims on an AWD right?

Keeping my OEM rims Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tire for winter and snow. Also, here is a older pic of a NASTY paint problem that has just been fixed.[:D]

RE: LM-5 Lorinser & Need new Tires

Actually, I just did it ---

We don't have a solid front or rear axel, --- in that case it would be a 100% no,no --- and the big reason it is not a good idea is 1) Often, the tire height can be different sometime half inch or more (don't have that problem) 2) Can't do tire rotation

Paint fixed.... [:D]

Was your ML ever in an accident? Was the bumper every re-painted? The previous owner of my ML had the rear bumper re-painted cheaply [the bumper was warped and clearly had been hit by something at least once] and mine began to flake just like yours. The only way to ensure the problem will not recur is to strip the entire bumper or get a brand new bumper. I got a brand new bumper and had it factory painted by the same people that do all the collision repair work for local BMW & MB dealerships. What did you have done?

RE: LM-5 Lorinser & Need new Tires

Toyo 295/45-20, plus highspeed balance and four wheel alignment.... [:D][:D][:D][:D]

The ride is very nice, hard to believe it is almost better than my 17inch Cross Terrains.

Paint,... First dealership "OK", then a week later "they need to change the date"... However, it was not a good time for me. Once, I returned for a A B service they say "Sorry,.. your warrenty has just expired and the starmark warrenty (until 100,000)does not cover paint." I was so pissed....

After one year, I just found a good paint shop and took care of it.

Wooooooo....

Had a scary moment yesterday,... driving along at about 55mph the ML lost all power almost like the engine turned off. The ESP kicked in, and once I took it off the car was "OK"...

Turns out they used the wrong size tire in the front (255/50/20) but it needed a 265/50/20 to have a perfect fit with the rear tire 295/45/20 at 30.4 inchs. Returned and they corrected this "SAFETY ISSUE" with correct size tire.[xx(][xx(][xx(]

AAC, how did you calculate proper tire size for staggered wheels?

RE: LM-5 Lorinser & Need new Tires

Here is a link to the page...

Anyhow, the diameter must be near perfect less than 1 percent difference. My tires 265/50/20 295/45/20 are 30.43 and 30.45 inches in diameter. The 255/50/20 they used were 30.04 inches and that small difference was a safety issue, plus cruse control would not work. Anyhow, I liked how the X5 4.6 runs large rims in the back, and that kind of got me thinking.... why not?
