Got rid of the rough idle problem. Replaced the plugs. I had 85,000 miles, but it is a '99, so it's 5 years old. The plugs were REALLY bad, the electrodes were visibly worn.
By the way:
Bosch standard plug at dealer: $13.50 each, $171.00 with tax.
Bosch Platinum 2 plugs at Pep Boys: $3.99 each, $50.00 with tax.
Screwing your dealer out of $120.00 - priceless.
Dealer wanted 2 hours install, did it myself with info from this board.
Addendum to install instructions:
1. Remove coils on left side.
2. Remove air cleaner box on right side.
3. A 3" extention is too short, a 6" extension is too long. Goldilocks used a 1/2" drive ratchet with reducer attached to a 3" extension, just right.
It will take about an hour if you're good, two if you get liquored up while you do it (sounds like sex...)
did you install platinum single electrode or the 4 electrode spark plugs, and is there any noticeble difference.
I have 30K on my 99ML and am debating if I should replace the plugs.
Thanks

The Bosch Platinum 2 is the two electrode plug. Per other threads here, I opted not to go with the 4 electrode since statements were made there was no noticable difference.
My truck runs alot better now, faster pickup, the rough idle is gone. It's only $50.00 (US) and a couple of hours time, I highly recommend changing them.
