First thanks to ahopeter
for the ML springs installed it saturday and they are great
actually it feels like a new ML
second today morning for some reason ML did not start
was able to jump start it and it started
now i drive it for 4 hours and then stopped for 5 min and the battery went dead without any notification or something
now have to jump start if i want to start the ML
kind of thinking is the battery dead or the alternator
anyone have any idead if its alternator or battery
Yes, if it was the alternator the car would stall out after driving it for xx miles since the battery would gradually lose charge and we don't have access to diesels [:(]. I'd guess that the battery should be replaced.
My SA had mentioned to me that the US batteries are of a inferior quality...it you have it replaced with a OEM one, get the German one.....[:)]

First if your battery is already 4 years old, you should plan to change it anyway.
Get a cheap battery voltimeter that can go into your cigarrete lighter, and check first the battery voltage with the engine off. The voltage should read around 11.5-12.0 for a healthy battery.
Next turn on your engine, and the voltage should read around 13.5-14,0 volts. If it is below 13.0 volts, your alternator is not producing enough voltage to really charge your battery.
Check the contacts in your battery, if they are loose or if you find a dark oxidation layer, then your battery will not charge as it should and will not provide all the power it needs during cranking.
Most of the time, you can feel how your battery status is by the way your ML starts. If you feel a really snappy and healthy start (starter rotates nicely), then your battery is fully charged. If your ML starts kind of slow and weak, then you need to slow charge your battery since a drained battery will shorten its life span.
If I remember correctly, the the ML battery family size is #49. Excide and many others carry good replacements that last longer than the OEM's and are a lot cheaper.
If you do it yourself, make sure you have your radio code handy..

i would first change the battery, but the alternator may not be doing its job, but then again this is the same thing everyone else in this thread has already said...so basically ignore my post...except the first part.[:D]
car started no problems
let see tommorow if alternator is bad
if the battery does not cahrge and tommor i have problems that means the alternator
i will check tommorow
and keep you guys posted
AC, the stock battery on my 02 ML (replaced last week) was an Exide.
I suppose they could cut corners on OEM units that are to be shipped to Vance, that being the case, it would just be another great idea from the bean counters at MB.
