looks like some people here upgraded their speakers in their ML's. can anyone confirm the size for the front and rear's to be 6.5" and 5.25"? what about the mounting depths for both? i dont want to have to cut anything (metal) when i install some new ones.
what models mb quarts is everyone running? anyone try the infinity perfect series? are you guys running components for the fronts and coaxial for the rears? how about 2 or 3 way for the rears?
i been thinking of doing this upgrade long ago and figured it's time for it.

and click 'FAQ' on the left side bar.
At the bottom of the page, hit 'next page' until you come to the last page.
Near the bottom you will see 'What radio/CD will-'
Under that there are comments on speaker size, models, DIY stuff etc. The model info may be out of date by now but it is a start.
Don't overlook Crutchfields website for speaker size info as well as MB Quarts site.

Yes, the speaker sizes are correct. I have the MBQ Discus Series, which is coax. DKD116 6.5", DKE113 5.25", and DTE13 Sail Panel Tweeters ...
sorry, don't know the depth.
The sound is very good, but bass could be improved. The Sail Panel Tweeters raise the sound stage nicely, and blend well with the other speakers. The Component Series speakers are better, but more expensive.
Whatever you use, be sure to Dynamat!!! Now is the time, and it makes a world of difference! Also, I recommend Deflex pads behind the speakers ...

uncal, did you have to mod the door at all to mount the speakers? or where they a direct fit? how much dynamat did you use for your doors?
im thinking of going components too but dont know if components for the front and rear are neccessary? should i go components for the fronts and just coax for the rears? what about 2 way vs. 3 way?

Nope. Direct fit. But, the Sail Panel Tweeter mounting pieces were modified for a flush fit and firing direction. The crossovers are mounted in the doors.

I bought one pack of Dynamat Xtreme, and used all of it for the surfaces you see in the pic. The inner door was Dynamat Spray. I had this professionally done. Just the dynamat materials, deflex pads and labor were about $350-400, IIRC.

Sorry, can't help you there. Someone else got the Components?
sweet thanks uncal... i'll look into dynamatting. btw, does it only help the sound quality of the speakers or does it help with overall road noise? are there special instructions as to proper placement?
btw, thanks for the link to ml outpost. lot's of good stuff there.

The major difference is in the sound quality of the speakers. The sound of the door closing is a bit better. Road noise seems the same - the door seal update will probably help more there.

No. Just cover all surfaces that you can, while allowing for proper operation of the door mechanics. Someone here even used the Xtreme on the inner surfaces of the door - with good results! IIRC, he ended up with a few cuts on his arms, though!
