The vehicle was running fine, stopped at a store and shut the vehicle off, when I came back out which was all of two minutes the vehicle would not start. After talking with mercedes roadside assist, replaced the battery, the car would then turn over and start for a breif moment then shut off, again going off thier lead they felt it was the fuel pump which I replaced the next day. The vehicle is still doing the same thing. There seems to be fuel getting the engine for when you push the fuel presure release valve fuel does come out. Any ideas ???
This sounds like a problem with your key. I had the same thing when I tried using my spare. The car would open and turn over, but not catch! Otherwise it could be an electrical problem with the immobilizer. I dont know if there is maybe a fuse you could check ?
That was the problem, I used my other key and it runs fine. Does anyone know why the key goes bad ? and what is the imobilizer ? Thanks alot for steering me in the right direction, so much for Mercedes road side assistants.
I feel so fortunate to have read this, I experienced the same problem last week and my ml is still at the dealer and they wanted me to replace the entire alarm system for ~$1000. I am just going to get a key made and see if that starts it. Thanks for the help.
My 1999 ML320 did the same thing two weeks ago (see my post stranded 120 miles from home). It was the crankshaft positioning sensor. Cost around $450.00 US. Good luck, hope it works out to be just your key!
Ignition system. I purchased my 99 ML 2 weeks ago and 10 days in it wouldn't start after filling up at the gas station. Called for a tow, after waiting about 10 min it started right up. Canceled the tow, assumed it was just a fluke as I had let the tank run nearly dry.
Happened again that night as I dropped a friend off. Waited, started. Next morning got up to take it to the dealership, did it again.. waited; started. As I pulled up into the garage, it died a fourth time, wouldn't start. After making certain the technician heard it turning over I left it with him.
I got a call a few hours ago. They thought it was the feul pump, it tested pressure, pressure, pressure, zero; several times. Eventually though, they tracked it down to a faulty ignition system. It would fail and send a signal to the pump to stop sending fuel.
May be a 180ΒΊ from your problem, but this could be the issue.
