RE: Is it a plug and play .....

Hi dewdaltz

I thought about this mod about 6 month ago. I went and bought the mirror and toke it to number of dealers in the area for installation, they all refused.
I even went to the Germen Car Shop in Edison, no luck.
They all said that they fear breaking the wind shield in the process.
So if you fond some body to replace the mirror or you did it your self please let me knew.

Thanks
Aiman

RE: Is it a plug and play .....

I have the auto dimming mirror in my '00 ML430 which I just recently bought, but I can't figure out how exactly it helps. When I press the middle button, the LED turns green, but i don't notice a difference in the mirror's reflectivity. Am I missing something here? [:p]

press it when its kind of dark...you can actually see the mirror turn greenish...very noticeable.

There is a forward-facing sensor and a rear-facing sensor. When the light in the rear-facing sensor is brighter than the light in the forward-facing sensor, then the mirror will “dim by activating its LCD panel thus turning images in it green. The outside driver’s side mirror should do the same. With a darkly tinted rear window and the tall rear center headrest, mine rarely activates.

Does the metal mount glued to the windshield have to be replaced, too? Unless that’s the case, this excuse sounds like B.S. I’ve had my mirror off several times with no fear of breaking any glass (but don’t talk to me about carrying 16-foot lumber). Personally, I find the dimming function mostly useless because of the center headrest and tinted widows, but I do like the integrated map lights that come with it.
