Has anyone else heard that MB is trialing some new ML500 brake pads around the US? I was in the dealer and the chief foreman told me he had just gotten a notice that they were being trialed. He said he wouldn't know if there were going to be made available until MB sends another update to him.
My ML500 has had 2-3 changes and shims and still squeels when braking lightly, turning heads in every parking lot I visit :0
I picked up my '02 ML500 Oct 31, 2001.
It has 21K miles on it now. At 8k miles I got the "new" pads back then. Prior to that they had monkeyed with them to reduce squeeling. After the new pads at 8k miles, I can't recall whether they put in the shimms at the same time or afterwards.
hmm, is the dealer warrantying all these brake changes, cause i heard the 500 is notorious for premature brake wear? i have an 04 500, and only have 1k miles so far...but curious about what to expect in the future.
the changes I mentioned above were under warrenty.
They claim that they only warrenty brakes for first year. HOwever I did mention that I have complained about my brakes since I bought my vehicle.
I think if these new pads that are in trial now come out, that I can convince them to replace again. The real coup will come if they also replace the rotors since MB claims they can't be resurface and now with 20K miles would need replacement ($1300.)
I think I'll blame my shoes the next time the heals wear out and see just what that does for my psyche. Do you think it might be like the eraser on a pencil--you use it and it wears out? I wonder . . . [8D]
He is a zealot and leader of the ML apologist movement on this board. Don't complain about any defect (we all know you'd be lying anyway [:)]) and you'll get along fine. Of course, if you brought forth any kind of proof (say the copies of the work order you get at your dealer) they would be contested as the fraudulent fabrications of a grumpy never satisfied user who may or may not own an ML in the first place.
PS. My brakes have been squealing too. My dealer (during one of my imaginary visits) added some paste to the back of the pads and my neighbours (they were delusional in noticing the squeal in the first place) quit making fun of the squealing Mercedes altogether.
PPS. I would not worry abot your psyche either, even after multiple imaginary visits to your dealer or favorite shoe store [:D]
