Actually, an ML probably would have gotten stuck. The ML has to spin its tires for the 4ETS to work... which digs it into the soft mud.
I've had the mud problem with my ML before. Maybe someone that's a better off-roader would do better than I could, but all I could do was back out. I found flotation tires help a lot to keep from sinking in.
